A Busy Couple of Weeks In Kindergarten

Here's a look at what Kinder have been up to over the past 2 weeks

Kindergarten have listened to bible stories through the use of exploring scripture. They have had the chance to use it to retell the stories to their friends. These photos show children retelling Lk 18:15-17 'Jesus Blesses little Children'

We been hard at work

In Mathematics we have been counting, adding, learning about 2D shapes, learning about time and making patterns. Here are a few patterns that we made.

We have begun "Play and Write".

A few mornings a week we come into class and choose something to play with or create for 10 mins. We then have 10mins to reflect and write about what we just did. This allows us to see a purpose for our writing and encourages us to sound out beginning and ending sounds in words.

We have only begun so stay tuned for the upcoming changes and activities we might be offered. Assistance will be needed so make sure if you are available you let your kindergarten teacher know!

In shared reading we have been reading 'The Very Busy Spider', By Eric Carle and making spiders with our buddies.

After lunch we come into class for silent reading. Here are a few of us enjoying our stories.

In Religion we have been learning about the crucifix. We went looking to see where we could find them around the school. We found them in all the classrooms, on necklaces, on the flag pole, on top of the church and a big one outside the office.

We then went back to class to make our own.

We have been blowing our teachers away with how clever we are!

Enjoy your day!

In Shared Reading Kindergarten have been reading stories by Eric Carle.

So far we have read:
'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', 'The Very Busy Spider' and 'Polar Bear, Polar bear'.

In the next 2 weeks we will be reading 'Will you be my friend?' and 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear'.

Through Eric Carle's books we have been learning about concepts of print, how to read and are enjoying sequencing the stories.

We watched a video on how Eric created the illustrations in his book and we attempted to try it ourselves.

Kindergarten took part in Bethany's
'Clean up Australia Day'
We read the Dr Suess book called 'The Lorax.'

We then discussed all the environmental issues raised in the story. Following on from this we looked at things we could do to make sure we could look after our environment.

Together we wrote a song that we could share with our friends to spread the message about keeping our school and world clean.

Our teacher entered us into a competition through Clean up Australia.

Season of Lent

In Kindergarten we have been learning about Lent.

We participated in Shrove Tuesday also known as pancake Tuesday

We all participated in a grade mass on Ash Wednesday where our teachers marked the Sign of the Cross on our forehead.

This sign was to remind us of Jesus.

Below are some photos of our Prayer tables.

They are covered by a special Purple cloth.

Purple is the colour of Lent.

On our Prayer table are the special ashes that we were blessed with.

These ashes are from the palms that were burnt and blessed last year on Palm Sunday.

We have all made Lenten Promises.

These remind us how we can be like and follow Jesus

Below are some children acting out some of their promises.

Helping some one who falls over

Helping eachother and packing up

Helping our parents and teachers clean

Project Compassion - Giving money to those in need

Sharing toys with my friends

Helping make our beds and keeping our room tidy.

We have learnt Lent goes for 40 days and we are trying our hardest to be kind just like Jesus.

Some people to give up something for Lent whilst others choose to do something for Lent.

It would be great to share with your family what your Lenten Promises are!

Peace
